What Scribe does better

  • Cloud sharing. A link or an embed is often easier than sending a file, and the guide stays current when you edit it.
  • Team features. Shared team workspaces, comments, roles, SSO and admin controls.
  • Integrations. Confluence, a Slack bot and Copilot integration, plus export to Microsoft Word.
  • More places to capture. Edge as well as Chrome, and desktop apps on paid plans.
  • More automation. AI features such as Autocapture, and automatic PII and PHI redaction on Enterprise.
  • Version history and video sharing.

Where Stepcairn is different

  • Guides stay on your computer. Nothing is uploaded, so screenshots of internal tools and customer records never leave your machine. You need no account.
  • Price. $6/month or $48/year for Pro, and HTML and Markdown export on the free plan.
  • Plain files. Guides export as one HTML file or as Markdown you can paste into a wiki or a repo.
  • The trade-off. Nothing syncs, so export the guides you want to keep. Uninstalling Stepcairn deletes them.

Which one fits

Choose Scribe if your team shares guides by link, works in a shared library, or needs SSO, integrations or desktop capture. Choose Stepcairn if your guides show things that should not sit on someone else's server, if you are happy to share files, or if you want a lower price and a free plan with export.
